About Durham IAM
Who Are the Durham Group of Advanced Motorists?
The Durham Group of Advanced Motorists was formed in 1984, as a registered charity and affiliated to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM). The group is run on a voluntary basis and neither Committee members nor Observers receive any money for the work they do.
How Can the Durham Group of Advanced Motorists Help Me?
The object of the group is to encourage a high standard of driving and to prepare motorists for the Advanced Driving Test – the Skill for Life - conducted by the IAM.
What Will I Get As a Member of the Durham Group…?
The Durham Group’s membership fee is £10 per year. As an Associate or Group member you are entitled to:
• attend all meetings and events organised by the group and may bring friends free
• receive a quarterly Newsletter
Note: you must be a Member of the IAM to be a Member of the Durham Group.
How does the Durham Group Operate?
All our funding comes from our members who pay an annual subscription of £10, in return for which they receive a quarterly Newsletter and the opportunity to meet 10 times a year to listen to guest speakers, join in quizzes or take part in organised outings.
In addition, we run events such as the Driving Skills Night and Treasure Hunt. We also organise “Open Days” where we invite members of the public to go out on assessed trial runs, with a view to encouraging them to become Associate members of the group.
Friends of Durham IAM
Since July 2010, we have a new membership status of Friends of Durham IAM. This membership is for people who are not members of the Institute of Advanced Motorists but who would like to show their support for the group. Friends Membership will offer similar 'group' opportunities as full members and associates with an annual fee of £5.
