Observers
The Durham Group’s Observers
Associate members use their own cars on ‘observed drives’ with an allocated Observer, who will be an experienced ‘Advanced Driver’.
• When you join the IAM, the Durham Group can provide you with an ‘Observer’ who will give you one-to-one advice and guidance on improving your car driving; to prepare you for taking the IAM test.
• Your Observer will be someone who has passed their advanced test and may have also passed the IAM’s formal Observer Training test, and has been approved by the Committee and Senior Observer/Training Officer.
• Observers, who give their time voluntarily and free of charge, provide advice and guidance in order to improve the Associate member’s driving skills in compliance with ‘the system’ of advanced driving.
• Observers have their driving skills reassessed periodically.
